10 day basics

One of most popular courses is the so called ‘10 Day Basics’ training.

The ‘10 Day Basics’ training is a module consisting of 10 training sessions of 2 hours each. The basic elements of Wing Chun per chosen subject will be shown during these 10 intensive training sessions. From basic stance through to active sparring, all will be taught and it will show the effectiveness of Wing Chun in practical situations. Furthermore you will be taught the five principles of Wing Chun (Kun Kut), in other words the ground rules, to enable the most effective way of fighting in situations which ask for such measurements.

The order of the modules are not fixed. If you have no experience with the Wing Chun system we would advise you however to start at the beginning. Reason being that every module demands knowledge of the preceding module You can chose which module has your preference, should you have some or extended knowledge of Wing Chun (other lineages as well) or other martial arts.

Within the ‘10 Day Basics’ we offer the following 7 modules:

Module 1: Siu Lim Tao & Basic Principles

The advice will always be: start at the beginning and thus create a stable basis for your further Wing Chun training This module therefore comprehends the whole first form (Siu Lim Tao) in every detail. Of course all applications will be explained together with the basic principles of Wing Chun. Basic footwork and fighting stances are included within this module. In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Basic Stance (Yie Tsi Kiem Yung Ma), Basic Footwork, Basic Punch (Faht Chong Kuen), Basic Kick (Kiuk), Baht Cheung, the WEDGE of Wing Chun, Siu Lim Tao (form and applications) and the basic principles.

Module 2: Chum Kiu & Advanced Principles

With the second form Chum Kiu, you will be taught how the arms and legs cooperate during a fight. I.e. , the true principles for fighting successfully. The second form is the basis for the Mok Yan Chong training and the very difficult Chi Sao later on. In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Basic Kicks (Kiuk), Centerline principle, advanced movement combined with punches and kicks, shifting, Chum Kiu (form and applications) and Advanced Principles.

Module 3: Mok Yan Chong & Sahn Chong

The most well known trademark of Wing Chun is the Mok Yan Chong, also known as the Wing Chun Dummy. Through a fixed form of 108 movements almost all principles of Wing Chun will be taught with the assistance of this wooden dummy. This wooden dummy will punish you for wrongly executing techniques, as hardwood will always beat flesh and bone. Through this process you will learn how to strike in a correct and in the most efficient way without hurting yourself in any situation. In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Synchronising the movement of arms/hips/legs. Further explanation of the Centerline, Dummy Sets per 10, Living Dummy Sets per 10 (including all applications).

Module 4: Biu Jee

The third and last ‘hand’-form is called Biu Jee: Aiming towards your target (also known as Trusting Fingers. During this module we will train how the previously studied forms are supported by the more advanced techniques from this last form with examples of day to day life examples. Should you make a mistake or if a position has occurred which is unwanted, Biu Jee will have a solution. In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Final Kicking techniques, Escapes, Locks, Biu Jee (form and applications).

Module 5: Chi Sao & Applications

Although it has been mentioned in the introduction, the ’10 Day Basics’ will address the basis per subject. And although we strive to het the higher achievable with every student, with the subject of Chi Sao this is the most difficult. Chi Sao is the heart of Wing Chun and weaves and combines all principles and logic of fighting. The principles and the underlying thought of Chi Sao can be applied to other styles. During 10 intensive sessions we will teach you the basis of Chi Sao, and a new world will be opened for you. In short, the following subjects will be addressed

Bai Sao, Dahn Chi Sao, Poon Sao, Static and Dynamic Chi Sao, Go Sao

Module 6: Lok Dim Boon Kwan & Baht Cham Dao

To be able to understand on a high level how meticulously Wing Chun operates, knowledge of the two weapon systems is essential. The true goal is not even to learn how to fight with knives or poles (as this is not a very realistic situation nowadays). Its purpose is mainly to give you even more insight in the use of the principles, stances, weight distribution and war methodologies. SWK is the only foundation who offers the original forms without restrictions! In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Various stances, Blunt and Edged weapons, Pole vs. Knife, Lok Dim Boon Kwan (form and applications), Baht Cham Dao & Sao Dao (form and applications).

Module 7: A Theory of Fighting

All knowledge gained during earlier modules will be trained in their core during this last module. Practical situations, supported by experience and video footage, will be analysed and trained. How does Wing Chun compare to other styles/martial arts or aggressive opponents who have never trained in a martial art? All these questions will be answered during this last module. In short, 10 practical classes during which the ultimate will be demanded from Wing Chun. Well, to be more precise the principles of the Wang Kiu Wing Chun System will be tested. In short, the following subjects will be addressed:

Sparring, Wing Chun vs. other styles / practical situations, Armed Attacks (knife/pistol/baseball bat etc.), Mental Strength, Stress and the ability to act or not act.
